TEVETA Zambia conducts benchmarking visit to TEVETA Malawi- In a step towards fostering collaboration and enhancing TEVET, TEVETA Zambia conducted a benchmarking visit to TEVETA Malawi.
The visit, which took place over five days in Lilongwe, aimed to share best practices, explore innovative approaches in skills development, and strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two institutions.
Of particular interest to Zambia was Malawi’s Competency Based Education and Training (CBET), an approach to vocational education and training in which skills, knowledge and attitudes are specified in order to define, steer and help to achieve competence standards.
Leader of the Zambian delegation, Director of Technical Education and Vocational training in the Ministry of Technology and Science, Ms. Precious Lisulo, indicated that CBET is a reform area for Zambia.
“Malawi has made notable progress in implementing CBET and we are here to learn and exchange ideas as this is our reform area. We consider your achievements and lessons learned in the process of implementing CBET a valuable resource to us in developing a CBET system in Zambia,” she said.
The Executive Director for TEVETA Malawi, Elwin Chiwembu Sichiola, expressed delight at hosting the Zambia team describing the visit as an opportunity to collaborate as the two countries have similar environments.
“Our operating environments are similar and so are our challenges and we believe that peer learning is critical in shaping policies and operational strategies,” said Sichiola.
On top of discussions, the team also visited the Ministry of Labour and TEVET providers such as Lilongwe Technical College and Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute.
