YEDF Lauch three Day Youth in Clean Energy Entrepreneurship Workshop At Tom Mboya University

Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) Lauch three Day Youth in Clean Energy Entrepreneurship Workshop At Tom Mboya University – YEDF CEO Josiah Moriasi today officially opened a three-day ‘Youth in Clean Energy Entrepreneurship Workshop’ at Tom Mboya University, Homa Bay. The workshop, supported by the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), brings together young innovators from Nyanza region to explore clean energy business opportunities.

Distinguished guests included Prof. Charles O. Ochola, Vice Chancellor of Tom Mboya University, Vincent Ogaya from KCIC and Dr. Anne Kingiri from ACTS.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Moriasi emphasized the transformative potential of youth in the clean energy sector. “Young people are not just the future of clean energy – they are the present. They bring fresh perspectives, digital nativity and an urgency that our climate crisis demands.

He highlighted the Fund’s support mechanisms which include the Go Green loan product that offers up to Kshs. 2 million for youth in clean energy. We also provide mentorship, market linkages and entrepreneurship training because we understand that sustainable businesses require sustainable support systems.”

Prof. Ochola highlighted the university’s role in innovation. “Universities must move beyond theoretical knowledge to become incubators of practical solutions. This workshop represents our commitment to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world problem-solving. We want to churn out graduates who are job creators, not job seekers.”

Dr. Kingiri emphasized the research dimension. “Data shows that youth face systemic barriers in accessing clean energy opportunities. This workshop generates evidence that will inform policy changes and ensure that future interventions are based on lived experiences rather than assumptions.”

The workshop attracted 30 participants, including 25 young entrepreneurs from Kisii, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya and Migori counties. Over three days, they will develop business plans and learn entrepreneurship basics. They will then be commissioned as Clean Energy Champions upon completion.
