The South Africa Department of Basic Education (DBĖ) in collaboration with the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) is implementing job opportunities for youth through the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) Phase V, targeting a start date of 1 June 2025, ending 30 November 2025. BEEI is an integral part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus.
The Implementation of Phase V is supported by the Industrial Development Corporation as the Implementing Agent to disburse stipends to beneficiaries. The BEEI programme targets youth aged 18-34 turning 35 by the end of March 2026 with a stipend of R4,000.00 for six months, plus R30.00 data.
Phase V’s target is 200,000 job opportunities for youth across nine provinces.
Eligibility Criteria for DBE BEEI Phase 5 (V) Teacher Assistant is as follows:
(a) Youth who participated in the previous phases (I-IV), however, must meet the other requirements stated below.
(b) Youth at age 18 34 years (18 or above when applying, or 34 turning 35 on or before 31 March 2025)
(c) Youth residing 5 km around the location of the school (30 km for farm and rural schools)

(d) One opportunity per household
(e) Meet requirements per category and sub-category (role) applied for
(f) Youth, NOT in Education, NOT in Employment, NOT in Training (NEET)
(g) Youth studying a teaching undergraduate degree on a part-time, distance or remote/online learning will be prioritised for placement so that they may receive the work-integrated learning (WIL)
(h) Youth in possession of NQF level 6 or 7 qualification will be prioritised
(i) Youth NOT studying full-time
(j) Youth studying teaching junior degree on distance of remote learning should be prioritised to receive work-integrated learning as it’s required by many employers
(k) Youth NOT receiving any other form of STIPEND, WAGE or SALARY
(L) Youth NOT in a Learnership
(m) Youth not double dipping – in another programme of the Department of Education (e.g. EPWP, CWP, Learner Support Agents, Care and Support Agents, Food Handler, Bus Controllers, Screeners, etc.)
(n) Youth WITHOUT criminal record/s (young people should apply for Police Clearance Record, it will be required when called for interviews, the PCR must be one month old)
(0) Youth that was not unfairly advantaged above others due to their relations to staff members (SMT or SGB)
(p) Youth living with disability must provide medical certificate confirming the nature of disability
(q) Youth that have a valid South African Identity Book/Card
