PROGRAMME OVERVIEW:

The SCM Internship Programme is a 12-month developmental opportunity for graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in public sector supply chain management. Interns will rotate through the four core SCM sections, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end SCM value chain in a university setting.
This internship is ideal for individuals seeking to build practical experience, understand legislative frameworks, and develop administrative and analytical skills within a public institution.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or any relevant qualification (NQF6/NQF7).
No work experience required
Technical and Systems Proficiency on MS, (Microsoft Suite – MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, & Visio)

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Excellent negotiation
  • Interpersonal and Assertiveness skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES:

  • Workplace exposure in procurement/SCM (not mandatory).
  • Familiarity with ERP or procurement systems.
DUTIES:
  • Assist in the preparation of procurement plans and demand forecasts.
  • Support end-users in completing procurement requests and specifications.
  • Help maintain demand management records and assist with needs analysis processes.
  • Assist with the preparation and administration of RFQs, tenders, and bid documentation.
  • Attend bid specification and evaluation meetings as an observer.
  • Ensure compliance with SCM procedures and assist with quotation evaluations.
  • Support in drafting, reviewing, and filing of contracts.
  • Assist with maintaining the contracts register and tracking expiry/renewal dates.
  • Help ensure supplier compliance with contract terms and service level agreements.
  • Assist in processing travel requisitions in line with the university’s travel policy.
  • Support booking and coordination of academic and administrative travel.
  • Maintain travel records and reconcile supporting documentation.
General Support:
  • Provide administrative assistance across SCM functions.
  • File and manage SCM documentation in accordance with record-keeping policies.
  • Participate in team meetings, audits, and internal reviews.
