Call for Application – South Africa Department of Tourism Training Opportunities 2025 for New Tourist Guides.The Department of Tourism (Department) in collaboration with the Free State Department of Economic, Small Business, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) will be implementing a skills development programme for new entrants in tourist guiding. Individuals who have a passion for tourist guiding are encouraged to apply for the training opportunity.

TARGET REGION

The target region for the training is the Fezile Dabi District Municipality, Free State Province. The strategic objective of the programme is to train unemployed youth (18-35 year olds) who are interested in pursuing a career in Tourist Guiding as Nature and Culture Site Guides at the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site.

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION AND CONDITIONS OF ENROLEMENT

Individuals that are interested in participating in this programme will be required to submit a written motivation (not exceeding 1 page) giving reasons why they should be selected to undergo training to become registered Nature and Culture Site guides. Please ensure that your full name and surname along with a certified copy of your South African ID is also included.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

  • Submitting a written motivation (not exceeding 1 page) along with a CV, certified copies of ID and qualifications.
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be unemployed youth between the ages of 18 to 35.
  • Must be in a possession of Matric certificate or any equivalent qualifications.
  • Must be literate and conversant in English.
  • Qualifications in tourism or environmental related fields will be an added advantage.
  • Must reside within a 40km-60km radius of the Vredefort Dome World Heritage site. Proof of residence will be required (not older than 3 months), (e.g.) municipality bill or letter from a tribal authority or ward councillor.
  • Must have a passion or interest in the tourism sector and a basic understanding of tourist guiding.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo an interview process and subjected to vetting processes and signing of a learner contract as a commitment to the training programme.
  •  Please note no more than one (1) learner per household may apply and No affidavits will be accepted as proof of residence.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS AND CLOSING DATE

The deadline for submissions is 3 March 2025 no later than 16:00. All applications to be emailed to [email protected] and [email protected]. If you have not been contacted within three (3) months after the closing date of the advertisement, please consider your application to be unsuccessful.
