On Tuesday, 4 March 2025, the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development will hand over 23 bonsmara bulls to qualifying smallholder livestock farmers within the Witpoort farming area, in the Lephalale Local Municipality under the Waterberg District.
A total amount of R6,313,000 has been allocated by the department through the Directorate: Cooperative and Enterprise Development to procure livestock and farming equipment as part of support for the smallholder farmers.
The Acting Provincial Chief Director, Mr Lethabo Rakgoale, is calling on the recipients to strictly utilise the bulls for the intended purpose, which is to improve livestock breeds in order to produce quality breeds for market.
The planned handover highlights the importance of the implementation of the Agri-park programme, through which the department is currently developing the Witpoort Farmer Production Support Unit (FPSU) within the Lephalale Local Municipality of the Waterberg District. Waterberg is predominantly a livestock production district. The Witpoort FPSU is being developed to serve as a centre through which farmers are supported. The main objective of the FPSU is to provide a mechanisation centre, an auction facility and facilitate training, among other services. Members of the media are invited as follows:
