In todays latest HESLB News – The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Albert Chalamila has said he is ready to participate in the preparations and celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Higher Education Student Loans Board (HESLB) in recognition of the Board’s investment in people’s development.
Hon. Chalamila said this while speaking to HESLB Executive Director Dr. Bill Kiwia who arrived at the Regional Commissioner’s office today (January 22, 2025) to officially introduce himself and introduce the 20th Anniversary of HESLB which includes exhibitions, service centers, charity runs and a summit to be held on February 17, 2025 at the Julius Nyerere International Center, in Dar es Salaam.
“These twenty years are not a small thing … it is a matter of pride that you have invested in people’s development … it is something that is required to develop various areas including major projects like the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Dam”, said Hon. Chalamila.
In addition, the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner has stated that it is important to use the celebrations to demonstrate the positive impact of the establishment of HESLB, especially on beneficiaries, parents and other stakeholders including college owners who have benefited from the presence of the Credit Board to enable them to achieve their dreams.
Despite the Summit, RC Chalamila has shown interest in the charity race to be held on February 15, 2025 in Dar es Salaam and led by the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, where he said he will join HESLB to convey a message of encouragement to the citizens through a press conference in the next few days.
“There should be a Press Conference to explain why you have decided to have this celebration and how one can participate … there should also be a fundraising strategy for those who have benefited, via phone or other easy means”, emphasized Hon. Chalamila.
Initially, HESLB Executive Director Dr. Bill Kiwia who was appointed to the position by Hon. President Samia Suluhu Hassan in February last year, explained the purpose of visiting the Regional Commissioner’s office as being to officially introduce herself and recognize the achievements of the Sixth Phase Government for the good work being done and to bring together higher education stakeholders.
The bicentennial celebrations since the establishment of HESLB are guided by the motto “Positive Impact, Innovation and Service”, reflecting the major reforms that have been carried out in funding more than 830,000 higher education students in the country at a value of TZS 8.2 Trillion.
