Applications are now open for Petroleum Agency SA Internship Opportunities 2026/2027 for South Africans. Petroleum Agency SA, a subsidiary of CEF SOC Limited, is responsible for promoting and regulating the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas (petroleum) resources within the Republic both on-shore and off-shore on behalf of the Government in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA).

The Agency is offering an internship opportunity funded by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) for three (3) graduates over a two-year period, commencing February 2026.

The MQA funds learners based on the following criteria:

• The learner is unemployed and a South African citizen

• The graduates should have achieved the relevant qualification at a HET level.

• Must not have benefitted from an internship programme before whether MQA funded or company funded

• No previous work experience required.

The Interns will: • Contribute towards the achievement of the Department’s duties while developing the necessary skills and knowledge in the related disciplines

• Attend various relevant/ discipline specific training courses/ conferences

• Be trained on basic computer courses such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc. (depending on the current competency levels)

• Be afforded an opportunity to work independently to determine progress on own development.

Categories

Intern (x1): Petroleum Geoscience

Learn the fundamentals of Geology and Geophysics applicable to both the onshore and offshore oil and gas industry.

Be equipped with the necessary tools, skills and knowledge to qualify for employment as a Geoscientist. This includes, inter alia, knowledge of seismic data and interpretation, well interpretation and correlation, basin and petroleum systems modelling, resource evaluation and prospect generation, GIS, and South African Geology.

Minimum Qualification: B.Sc. Honours in Geosciences (4 years)

Intern (x1): Environmental Compliance

Be equipped with essential skills and knowledge required for employment as an environmental scientist, including the ability to process environmental authorisation applications and conduct environmental compliance monitoring and audits.

Be provided with practical exposure to the interpretation and application of environmental legislation relevant to the upstream petroleum sector.

Learn about environmental and operational matters by direct engagement with diverse stakeholders, including environmental assessment practitioners, and officials from various regulatory bodies.

Minimum Qualification: B.Sc. Honours in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management/ Natural Sciences (4 years)

Intern (x1): Finance

Gain exposure and experience through rotation and involvement in the following finance processes: Accounts receivables, Petty cash, Cash book, Accounts payable, financial statement preparation, Financial Management, Budgeting and forecasting, Asset management and Taxation (VAT and Income Tax).

Minimum Qualification: National Diploma in Accounting (3 years)

 

Candidates MUST have completed their relevant qualifications AND provide the following documents:
CERTIFIED copies of the following: Academic Record OR Statement of Results, Degree Certificate OR Letter of Completion, Metric Certificate and RSA Identity Document. Applications will not be considered if ALL the above documents are not submitted as part of the application.
