Over 170 000 People Access Literacy Education In 2024 – Zambia Education Ministry – The Ministry of Education has revealed that 179,576 people enrolled in literacy classes in 2024.

Ministry of Education, Assistant Director in the Directorate of Open and Distance Education (DODE), Ms. Inutu Kalumiana, has said the cohort included out-of-school children, youths, and adult learners.

Ms. Kalumiana, highlighted that the learners were enrolled across the 1,933 literacy centers managed by the Ministry of Education nationwide.
She added that this is a significant stride towards enhancing education accessibility in the country.

Speaking on EduTalkZone, a Ministry of Education inhouse information dissemination talk show, Ms. Kalumiana emphasized DODE’s dedication to raising literacy levels across the country.

She elaborated on the diverse learning alternatives established by the Ministry of Education to ensure literacy for everyone.

“As a Ministry, we are vigorously promoting the initiative of making education accessible to every child, youth, or adult who has either dropped out or never attended school. We urge them to seize the opportunity presented by the government’s free education policy because education is an equalizer,” Ms. Kalumiana stated.

The Ministry, through DODE, is committed to enhancing educational access by fostering lifelong learning for out-of-school children, youths, and adults.

DODE offers education through Open and Distance Learning, education broadcasting, and internet services, ensuring that no one is left behind.

The primary mission of DODE is to broaden educational access by providing opportunities to children, youths, and adults who are unable to attend conventional schooling.
