Our Journey At COP 29 – Hon. Ebi Ben Ololo. The Bayelsa State side event at COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, was a monumental success. We were honored by the presence of distinguished Leaders, including H.E. Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the Honourable Minister for Environment- Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Environment- Hon. Julius Pondi, Ms Tariye Gbadegesin- CEO climate investment funds, Ijaw Youth Council President – Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr and many more esteemed guests.
We had the unique opportunity to engage with the international community and potential investors on the theme: “Harnessing Partnerships and Potentials of the Blue Economy for Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience in Bayelsa State. Additionally, we highlighted the critical work of the Bayelsa State Oil and Environmental Commission, which reported the extensive environmental and health damages and proffered recommendations for a new framework to mitigate these issues.
We are excited to announce a promising Swedish interest in Bayelsa’s Blue Economy, marking a significant step towards sustainable development and climate resilience.
We also seized the opportunity to inform on the Deltas UNite initiative, which the Bayelsa State Government is championing alongside other global partners, calling for a UN Convention for the Conservation of River Deltas.
