In todays latest NSFAS News – NSFAS Distances Itself from Misleading Statement from Durban University of Technology. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) wishes to unequivocally distance itself from a message currently circulating on social media platforms, which falsely claims that: “Due to the ongoing NSFAS budget constraints the 2025 registration portal has closed. Therefore, NSFAS has advised that no registration templates will be accepted until further notice.”
This statement is entirely misleading and constitutes a gross misrepresentation of NSFAS’s official position and operational status. NSFAS strongly repudiates this inaccurate communication.
Should this statement have originated from the Durban University of Technology (DUT), the university is formally requested to issue an immediate correction. Such inaccurate statements not only mislead students and stakeholders but also potentially undermine the reputation of NSFAS.
The accurate position is that on the 3rd of March 2025, NSFAS issued CIRCULAR NOTICE NO. 4 OF 2025 to all universities, confirming that the NSFAS portal was ready to receive valid registration data from that date onwards. While the 2025 funding policy stipulates the cut-off date for the submission of registration data as the 31st of March 2025, institutions were strongly encouraged to submit their data by the 14th of March 2025 (close of business). This earlier submission was recommended to ensure timely processing and subsequent disbursement of funds by the end of March 2025.
It is therefore regrettable that some institutions, including the Durban University of Technology (DUT), did not adhere to the recommended deadline for the submission of the required registration data. This non-compliance has regrettably impacted the timely disbursement of tuition and living allowances to eligible students at these institutions.
NSFAS can confirm that on the 6th of May 2025, the Scheme successfully released student allowance payments to the affected universities. The disbursement of tuition fees will follow in due course.
NSFAS remains committed to ensuring that eligible students receive their funding in a timely and efficient manner and urges all institutions to comply with the stipulated data submission deadlines.
