Call for Application – NDI Emerging Leaders Fellowship 2025 for Young Tanzanians.

OVERVIEW

The National Democratic Institute’s (NDI) Emerging Leaders Fellowship brings together a diverse and cross-sectoral network of civic-minded Tanzanian leaders for dialogue, skill development and international exchange. Fellows will build skills and understanding on advocacy, consensus building, citizen engagement and responsive policymaking.

Established Tanzanian leaders and global experts will serve as advisors and thought partners while Fellows progress through a 12-month program centered on their own advocacy priorities and goals. Fellows will graduate with a firm understanding of the impact they can make on their communities and a supportive network of peers to serve as partners in the future. Accepting applications for Cohort 1, which will launch in Spring 2025!

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  •  Tanzanian citizen 25-45 years of age
  • 5-10 years of professional experience
  • Basic computer skills, consistent internet access
  • Proficiency in written & spoken English
  • Ongoing interest in leadership or community engagement and a vision for creating positive impact in Tanzania
  • Ability to spend 2-3 days on the program monthly and travel internationally once
  • Demonstrated commitment to leadership, civic engagement, fostering inclusion
  • Possess an awareness of social, political and economic issues in your community
  • Be an emerging leader interested in skills development, training and collaborative thought partnership

ACTIVITIES

  • Workshops and practical skills building in democratic governance and leadership.
  • Network building and ongoing partnership with peers and mentorship from Tanzanian leaders. Opportunity to engage with global experts.
  • In-person orientation in Dar es Salaam, Annual International Democracy Exchange and a Capstone Graduation Ceremony. Ongoing online support throughout the year.
  • Collaborate to develop joint action plans. Drive issue selection and planning, putting into action skills gained through sessions on communications, advocacy, models for change, gender and inclusion and negotiation.
  • Capstone graduation conference to showcase project results. Alumni exchanges and networking opportunities continue beyond the program.
