MINISTER MOKOKA DELIBERATES ON HOME-GROWN SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME
The Botswana Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Hon. Nono Kgafela-Mokoka, yesterday received a courtesy visit from CultivAid representatives.
The two sides deliberated on potential areas of collaboration in the field of agricultural production to aid in achieving a sustainable home-grown school feeding programme.
Mr Daniel Yakcobi, a CultivAid representative, stated that their focus is to provide research-based organic agricultural solutions that are customised to the needs and demands of specific geographical areas.
This is achieved through the use of innovative field applications to build sustainable ecosystems and drive socioeconomic growth. Mr Yakcobi further said this model has played a significant role in Israel’s agricultural success and has been implemented in countries such as South Africa and Morocco, among others.
During their deliberations, Minister Mokoka acknowledged the potential value sustainable agriculture can bring in achieving a home-grown school feeding programme, nutrition, education with production, and training of trainers.
The minister said this can go a long way in boosting economic growth and empowering out-of-school youth and local communities.
After yesterday’s discussion with Minister Mokoka, the CultivAid delegation convened today with Minister Mokoka, Minister of Health Hon. Dr Stephen Modise, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs Hon. Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, and Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Lands Hon. Dr Edwin Dikoloti to discuss further on issues of collaboration.
