Call for Application – Malawi Saint John of God University of Health Sciences Application for July 2025 Intake . St. John of God University (SJOGU) is a training institution of higher learning for health professionals in Malawi and its neighboring countries since its inception in 2003.
The University is a member of CHAM and operates under the proprietorship of Saint John of God Brothers of the Catholic church under the Mzuzu Diocese.
The University offers programmes that have been accredited by National council of Higher Education (NCHE) and approved by Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi (NMCM) and Medical Council of Malawi (MCM). The University is committed to training highly qualified and dedicated healthcare professionals to be of service in the country and beyond.
It strives to be a Centre of excellence in education, training, and research to enhance quality health services in Malawi and the sub- Saharan region. In fulfilling its mission, SJOGU is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to undergo training in the following upgrading programs for the July 2025 intake.
1. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MENTAL HEALTH PSYCHIATRIC NURSING-UPGRADING This is a two-year full-time programme
Applicants to this program must;
i. be Registered Nurses or Registered Nurse/ Midwives with University Diploma.
ii. have a minimum of two years post-qualification clinical/work experience.
iii.have a full Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with six (6) credits in English, Physical Science, Biology, Mathematics and any other two subjects.
iv. have current registration with the professional regulatory bodies of the nursing profession in their country e.g., the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi for Malawian applicants.
2. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CLINICAL MEDICINE (MENTAL HEALTH) UPDGRADING
This is a two-year full-time programme
Applicants to this program must;
i. be qualified general Clinical Officers with a Diploma in Clinical Medicine. Those with Diploma in Mental Health and Clinical Psychiatry are also eligible.

ii.have a full Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with six (6) credits in English, Physical Science, Biology, Mathematics and any other two subjects.
iii. currently be registered with the professional regulatory body governing clinical medicine practice in their respective countries e.g., the Medical Council of Malawi for Malawian applicants.
iv. have a minimum of two years’ work experience.
3. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PSYCHOTHERAPY-UPGRADING
This is a two-year full-time program
Applicants to this program must;
i. be qualified Counsellors with a Diploma in Psychosocial Counselling/Counselling
ii. have Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with six (6) credits including English and Mathematics.
iii. registered with Medical Council of Malawi
4. DIPLOMA IN CLINICAL MEDICINE-UPGRADING
This is a two-year full-time programme
Applicants to this program must;
i. be qualified medical assistants with a Certificate in Clinical Medicine
ii. have a full Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with a credit in English and any other two credits in either Biology, Mathematics, Physical Science or Chemistry and Physics.
iii. Registered with Medical Council of Malawi.
5. UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATE IN MIDWIFERY
This is a one-year full-time programme
Applicants to this program must;
i. have a Diploma/Degree in Registered Nursing.
ii. have a full Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with six (6) credits including English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and any other subject.
iii. Candidates who responded to the first advertisement should not re-apply.
