Malawi Releases Official 2025-26 Academic Calendar: Schools to Open September 22- The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education would like to inform the general public that 2025/26 Academic Year will commence on 22nd September, 2025 and end on 24th July, 2026 and will have 40 learning weeks as follows:
2025/26 ACADEMIC CALENDAR

| Three | 20th April, 2026 | 24th July, 2026 | 14 weeks | 7 weeks |
a) The first term will open on 22nd September, 2025 and will close on 19th December, 2025, followed by a 2 weeks holiday.
b) The Second term will open on 5th January, 2026 and close on 2nd April 2026 followed by a 2 weeks holiday.
c) The third term will open on 20th April, 2026 and close on the 24th July 2026 followed by a 7 weeks holiday.
All education institutions offering the National Curriculum and the general public are reminded that the school calendar is harmonised for all educational institutions, both public and private and at all levels. No educational institution offering the National Curriculum is therefore allowed to operate outside this calendar. The Ministry will therefore monitor total adherence to the Academic Calendar.
