Malawi Education Ministry Releases 2025 PSLCE and JCE Examination Results – The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) in conjunction with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has released the 2025 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examination results.

A. PRIMARY SCHOOL LEAVING CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION EXAMINATION RESULTS

For a candidate to pass the PSLCE examination he/she must obtain passes in five subjects including English.

  1. Out of the 247,958 candidates who sat for this examination, 216,972 have passed. This represents 87.50% pass rate.

  2. Out of the 120,122 male candidates who sat for this examination, 108,843 have passed. This represents 90.61% pass rate.

  3. Out of the 127,836 female candidates who sat for this examination, 108,129 have passed. This represents 84.56% pass rate.

  4. Out of the 3,178 Special Needs Education (SNE) candidates who sat for this examination, 2,385 have passed. This represents 75.05% pass rate.

  5. Out of the 1,629 male SNE candidates who sat for this examination, 1,280 have passed. This represents 78.58% pass rate.

  6. Out of the 1,549 female SNE candidates who sat for this examination, 1,105 have passed. This represents 71.34% pass rate.

  7. The performance of education divisions, based on percentage of candidates with As and Bs in descending order, is: North (22.68%), Central West (22.50%), South West (21.05%), South East (19.10%), Shire Highlands (18.45%) and Central East (18.28%).

The top ten (10) education districts, based on percentage of candidates with As and Bs in descending order, are: Mzuzu City (34.81%), Zomba Urban (31.80%), Salima (28.60%), Blantyre Urban (28.12%), Chitipa (26.18%), Lilongwe West (25.69%), Dedza (25.63%), Rumphi (25.49%), Phalombe (25.11%) and Mchinji (23.34%).

  9. The bottom ten (10) education districts, based on percentage of candidates with As and Bs in ascending order, are: Neno (8.68%), Chiradzulu (10.14%), Nkhotakota (11.68%), Mwanza (12.16%), Balaka (12.36%), Blantyre Rural (14.38%), Ntcheu (14.44%), Likoma (15.87%), Mzimba South (16.16%) and Machinga (17.06%).

  10. The top ten (10) schools, based on percentage of candidates with As and Bs in descending order, are: Mkazomba (Lilongwe East, 94.78%), Ming’ona (Mchinji, 90.91%), Junior Academy (Pvt) (Blantyre City, 90.00%), Nampeya (Machinga, 89.77%), Kaluwa (Nsanje, 89.02%), St Peter’s Dickson (Lilongwe West, 87.88%), Nkapalira II (Machinga, 87.80%), Thuma (Lilongwe East, 87.78%), Mthang’ombe (Lilongwe West, 87.29%) and Njelengwa (Chitipa, 84.62%).

  11. The bottom ten (10) schools, where none of the candidates obtained As and Bs and therefore ranked based on pass rate are, in ascending order: Galeta (Mchinji, 0.0%), Masefu (Nkhatabay, 0.0%), Kachere Model Primary (Lilongwe City, 0.0%), Karonga School for the Deaf (Karonga, 0.0%), Bangula Elim Pvt (Nsanje, 9.09%), Kabuyu (Karonga, 9.09%), Mtunthama (Salima, 10.00%), Mayuwi (Mzimba South, 11.54%), Darul-Uroom (Pvt) (Kasungu, 12.50%) and Bangwe LEA (Nkhotakota, 13.33%).

     

  12. The top ten (10) public schools, based on percentage of candidates with As and Bs in descending order, are: Mkazomba (Lilongwe East, 94.78%), Mng’ona (Mchinji, 90.91%), Nampeya (Machinga, 89.77%), Kaluwa (Nsanje, 89.02%), St Peter’s Dickson (Lilongwe West, 87.88%), Nkapalira II (Machinga, 87.80%), Thuma (Lilongwe East, 87.78%), Mthang’ombe (Lilongwe West, 87.29%), Njelengwa (Chitipa, 84.62%) and Beni (Lilongwe East, 83.33%). 
  13. The bottom ten (10) public schools, where none of the candidates obtained As and Bs and therefore ranked based on pass rate are, in ascending order: Galeta (Mchinji, 0.0%), Masefu (Nkhatabay, 0.0%), Kachere Model Primary (Lilongwe City, 0.0%), Karonga School for the Deaf (Karonga, 0.0%), Kabuyu (Karonga, 9.09%), Mtunthama (Salima, 10.00%), Mayuwi (Mzimba South, 11.54%), Bangwe LEA (Nkhotakota, 13.33%), Embangweni School for the Deaf (Mzimba South, 15.38%) and Mndale (Nkhotakota, 15.38%). 
  14. The top ten (10) private schools, based on percentage of candidates with As and Bs in descending order, are: Junior Academy (Blantyre City, 90.00%), Emmanuel (Blantyre City, 79.05%), Alipo (Blantyre City, 78.89%), Junior Academy (Salima, 78.47%), Crence (Phalombe, 78.33%), Little Stars Academy (Zomba urban, 76.67%), Playdor (Blantyre City, 76.62%), Bright Future (Blantyre city, 76.50%), Kibbutz (Blantyre City, 74.33%) and Jejire (Kasungu, 74.24%). 
  15. The bottom ten (10) private schools, where none of the candidates obtained As and Bs and therefore ranked based on pass rate are, in ascending order: Bangula Elim (Nsanje, 9.09%), Darul-Uroom (Kasungu, 12.50%), Zainab (Zomba Rural, 26.32%), Tikondane (Lilongwe City, 40.0%), Lumbadzi Dalitso (Lilongwe City, 45.0%), Dzuka (Lilongwe East, 60.0%), Shekina (Thyolo, 63.64%), Howola (Chitipa, 66.67%), Msusa (Nsanje, 71.43%) and Charity (Lilongwe West, 87.50%). 
  16. The ranking of subjects, based on proportion of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, is as follows: English (29.48%), Social and Religious Studies (27.65%), Chichewa (26.21%), Mathematics (19.00%), Primary Science (13.75%) and Arts and Life Skills (6.89%). 
  17. Out of 216,972 candidates who passed the examination, 103,261 have been selected to start Form 1 in various secondary schools. This represents 47.59% transition rate. This is higher than 44.96% for 2024.
  18. The candidates who have been selected to secondary schools are expected to report at their respective schools on 22nd September, 2025.

B. JUNIOR CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION EXAMINATION RESULTS

 

For a candidate to pass the Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations he/she must obtain Passes in at least six subjects including English.

 

  1. Out of the 158,451 candidates who sat for this examination, 122,977 have passed. This represents 77.61% overall pass rate.
  2. Out of the 76,916 male candidates who sat for this examination, 63,058 have passed. This represents an all males pass rate of 81.98%.
  3. Out of the 81,535 female candidates who sat for this examination, 59,919 have passed. This represents an all females pass rate of 73.49%.
  4. Out of the 938 Special Needs Education (SNE) candidates who sat for this examination, 761 have passed. This represents 81.13% pass rate.
  5. Out of the 417 male SNE candidates who sat for this examination, 342 have passed. This represents 82.01% pass rate.

  6. Out of the 521 female SNE candidates who sat for this examination, 419 have passed. This represents 82.01% pass rate.

  7. Out of the 112,458 internal candidates who sat for this examination, 98,341 have passed. This represents 87.45% pass rate.

  8. Out of the 14,684 external candidates who sat for this examination, 8,622 have passed. This represents 58.72% pass rate.

  9. Out of the 31,309 Open and Distance Learning (ODL) candidates who sat for this examination, 16,031 have passed. This represents 51.20% pass rate.

  10. Out of the 2,915 candidates who sat for this examination at National secondary schools2,906 have passed. This represents 99.69% pass rate.

  11. Out of the 6,342 candidates who sat for this examination at District Boarding secondary schools6,266 have passed. This represents 98.80% pass rate.

  12. Out of the 4,520 candidates who sat for this examination at City Day secondary schools4,456 have passed. This represents 98.58% pass rate.

  13. Out of the 3,825 candidates who sat for this examination at District Day secondary schools3,707 have passed. This represents 96.92% pass rate.

  14. Out of the 66,891 candidates who sat for this examination at Community Day secondary schools58,625 have passed. This represents 87.64% pass rate.

  15. Out of the 28,087 candidates who sat for this examination at private secondary schools22,432 have passed. This represents 79.87% pass rate.

  16. The performance of education divisions, based on percentage of candidates who obtained As and Bs, in descending order, is as follows:
    Shire Highlands (16.76%), South East (15.21%), North (13.75%), Central East (13.72%), Central West (13.69%) and South West (12.46%).

  17. The top ten (10) education districts, based on the percentage of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, are:
    Phalombe (22.13%), Zomba Urban (22.7%), Karonga (20.91%), Mulanje (18.32%), Mzuzu City (18.20%), Dedza (18.08%), Balaka (17.15%), Chiradzulu (16.06%), Salima (15.74%) and Dowa (15.65%).

  18. The bottom ten (10) education districts, based on the percentage of candidates who obtained As and Bs in various subjects, ranked in ascending order, are:
    Nsanje (7.80%), Mzimba North (7.99%), Mwanza (8.44%), Nicheu (8.58%), Neno (9.37%), Nichisi (11.08%), Machinga (11.26%), Mchinji (11.43%), Chikwawa (11.49%) and Nkhotakota (11.71).

  19. The top ten (10) schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, are:
    Ludzi Girls (92.13%, Mchinji), St Kizito Seminary (Dedza, 90.40%), Lilongwe Girls (Lilongwe City, 89.18%), St Mauritius (Rumphi, 88.66%), Robert Blake (Dowa, 88.21%), Loyola Jesuit (Kasungu, 85.67%), Jalira Girls (Rumphi, 83.10%), Mzuzu Government (Mzuzu City, 81.36%), St Mary’s (Mzuzu City, 80.26%), Dedza (Dedza, 80.08%) and Likuni Boys (Lilongwe West, 79.68%).

  20. The bottom ten (10) schools, whose candidates obtained no As and Bs and therefore ranked based on pass rate in ascending order, are:
    Good Choice (Pvt) (Chikwawa, 25.93%), Bvumbwe Research (Thyolo, 33.33%), Nkhatabay Unified (Pvt) (Nkhata Bay, 33.33%),

    1. Namilembe Community (Nsanje, 38.00%), Chinthekwe Community (Chitipa, 38.46%), New Life Academy (Pvt) (Nsanje, 40.00%), El Shaddai (Pvt) (Kasungu, 44.44%), Salima Islamic Centre (Pvt) (Salima, 45.24%), Ajemson (Pvt) (Lilongwe City, 46.88%), Dalitso (Pvt) (Nsanje, 47.62%).

    2. The top ten (10) national secondary schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, are: Ludzi Girls (92.13%, Mchinji), Lilongwe Girls (Lilongwe City, 89.18%), St Mauritius (Rumphi, 88.66%), Robert Blake (Dowa, 88.21%), Loyola Jesuit (Kasungu, 85.67%), Jalira Girls (Rumphi, 83.10%), Mzuzu Government (Mzuzu City, 81.36%), St Mary’s (Mzuzu City, 80.26%), Dedza (Dedza, 80.08%) and Likuni Boys (Lilongwe West, 79.68%).

    3. The bottom ten (10) national secondary schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in ascending order, are: Robert Laws (Mzimba North, 56.41%), Providence (Mulanje, 61.49%), Stella Maris (Blantyre City, 62.17%), Kaseye Girls (Chitipa, 62.94%), Malosa (Zomba Rural, 65.23%), Mlanda Girls (Ntcheu, 65.51%), St Patricks (Chiradzulu, 65.98%), St John Bosco (Mzimba South, 68.08%), Nkhatabay (68.65%) and St Michaels Girls (Mangochi, 68.70%).

    4. The top ten (10) district boarding schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, are: Phalombe (68.87%), M’mbomba (Ntchisi, 67.03%), Lisumbwi (Mangochi, 66.82%), Mzimba (Mzimba South, 65.12%), Masongola (Zomba Urban, 63.61%), Lunzu (Blantyre Rural, 61.70%), Kasungu (60.61%), Luviri (Rumphi, 58.26%), Mulunguzi (Zomba Urban, 57.98%) and Salima (57.56%).

    5. The bottom 10 district boarding schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in ascending order, are: Magawa (Mchinji, 19.03%), Likoma (23.50%), Mayani (Dedza, 26.84%), Wenya (Chitipa, 27.30%), Rumphi (27.63%), St Ignatius of Loyola (Chitipa, 28.93%), Umbwi (Dedza, 29.32%), Chitipa (29.77%), Chikwawa (35.74%) and Bandawc Girls (Nkhatabay, 37.77%).

       

    6. The ranking of City Day schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, is: Ndirade Hill (Blantyre Urban, 46.15%), Bwalla (Lilongwe City, 44.70%), Zingwangwa (Blantyre Urban, 42.02%), Chichiri (Blantyre Urban, 40.14%), Chipasula (Lilongwe City, 40.02%), Njamba (Blantyre Urban, 39.08%), Mkwichi (Lilongwe City, 38.88%), Katoto (Mzuzu City, 38.00%), Chinsapo (Lilongwe City, 35.20%), Luwinga (Mzuzu City, 34.57%), Soche Hill (Blantyre City, 29.71%), Bangwe (Blantyre City, 27.24%), Malindi (Mangochi, 26.33%), Mlodza Community – Lilongwe (Lilongwe City, 22.25%), Kabwabwa Community (Lilongwe City, 15.97%), Likangala (Zomba Urban, 14.86%), Chibavi Community (Mzuzu City, 13.68%), and Mbidzi Community (Lilongwe City, 13.43%). 
    7. The top ten (10) District Day schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, are: Nalikule Demonstration (Lilongwe East, 40.93%), Kang’oma (Lilongwe East, 37.44%), Livonde (Machinga, 30.11%), Malimba (Chiradzulu, 28.84%), Chambe (Mulanje, 25.85%), Majuni (Mangochi, 22.87%), Chimwalira (Zomba Rural, 22.72%), Dzumila (Chikwawa, 21.99%), Mbenjere (Machinga, 39.84%), and Nansomba (Mulanje, 19.68%). 
    8. The bottom ten (10) District Day schools, based on percentages of candidates who obtained As and Bs in ascending order, are: St Francis (Mzimba South, 3.79%), Mwansambo (Nkhotakota, 4.60%), Malombe (Mangochi, 5.85%), Mzenga (Nkhatabay, 6.05%), Walemera (Nkhotakota, 6.97%), Lozi (Nkhotakota, 9.29%), Nasru (Lilongwe West, 9.46%), Bolero (Rumphi, 10.68%), Nachitheme (Ntcheu, 10.74%) and Mtakataka (Dedza, 12.03%).
    • The top ten (10) Community Day schools, based on percentage of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order, are: Chikhwaza (Mulanje, 41.82%), Nkhulambe (Phalombe, 39.77%), St. Charles Lwanga (Balaka, 34.20%), Embangweni Secondary for the Deaf (Mzimba South, 33.71%), St Monica (Mangochi, 33.38%), Champagnat (Dedza, 28.25%), Mitundu (Lilongwe East, 28.21%), Sambanjati (Phalombe, 27.88%) Makande (Chikwawa, 26.27%) and One Heart (Zomba Rural, 25.06%).

    • The bottom ten (10) Community Day schools, based on percentage of candidates who obtained As and Bs in ascending order, are: Brumbwe Research (Thyolo, 0.00%), Namilembe (Nsanje, 0.00%), Chinthekwe (Chitipa, 0.00%), Mpumbe (Blantyre Rural, 0.00%), Kalowa (Nkhatabay, 0.00%), Kam’banga (Mzimba South, 0.00%), Matunkha (Rumphi, 0.15%), Katete (Nichisi, 0.22%), Gumba (Mchinji, 0.23%), Elangeni (Mzimba South, 0.27%).

    • The top ten (10) private schools, based on percentages of As and Bs in descending order, are: St Kizito Seminary (Dedza, 90.40%), Nankhunda Seminary (Zomba Rural, 79.56%), Bakhita (Balaka, 79.45%), Milare Seminary (Lilongwe East, 78.68%), Chaminade Marianist (Lilongwe West, 77.00%), Lilongwe Islamic (Lilongwe West, 73.40%), Atisikana Paulendo (Lilongwe West, 68.04%), Dedza Girls Islamic (Dedza, 68.01%), St Patrick’s Seminary (Rumphi, 67.26%) and Likulezi Catholic Boys (Phalombe, 65.66%).

    • The bottom ten (10) private schools, whose candidates did not obtain any As and Bs and therefore ranked based on pass rate in ascending order are: Good Choice (Chikwawa, 25.93%), Nkhatabay Unified (Nkhatabay, 33.33%), New Life Academy (Nsanje, 40.0%), El Shaddai (Kasungu, 44.44%) Salima Islamic Centre (Salima, 45.24%), Ajemson (Lilongwe City, 46.88%) Dalitso (Nsanje, 47.62%), Tsogolo (Balaka, 50.00%), Providence (Karonga, 50.00%) and Microtech (Lilongwe City, 51.72%).

      1. The performance on subjects based on percentage of candidates who obtained As and Bs in descending order are: Metal Work (31.36%), Home Economics (14.85%), Woodwork (14.35%), French (10.59%), Technical Drawing (8.08%), Bible Knowledge (5.30%), Creative Arts (3.64%), Mathematics (3.59%), Chemistry (3.31%), Computer Studies (3.11%), Geography (2.38%), History (1.89%), English (1.33%), Chichewa (1.19%), Clothing and Textiles (0.91%), Agriculture (0.85%), Physics (0.85%), Biology (0.72%), Business Studies (0.43%) and Social and Life Skills (0.20%).

ACCESSING EXAMINATION RESULTS

Examination centres and candidates will access their results online. Examination centres will be able to access results through their e-Registration Portal. The results will be available in downloadable PDF documents for the schools. Individual candidates or their parent/guardian will be able to access results on the MANEB Examination Results Portal . To ensure security, a candidate’s results will be retrieved using the correct examination number and date of birth.

PSLCE candidates will confirm their selection to Secondary Schools, entering the correct Examination Number then clicking SHOW RESULTS.

All candidates wishing to query their 2025 PSLCE and JCE results should do so in writing through the heads of schools where they registered for the examinations.

All queries should reach MANEB by 19th September, 2025. After this date no further queries will be entertained.

JCE candidates wishing to remark their JCE results should collect and fill forms from their respective schools. The remark fee for 2025 JCE results is K45,000 Kwacha per subject.
