Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Education has announced the registration of the The Lower Secondary Proficiency Examination (LSPE), which has replaced the Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination, is structured to provide certification that students or adults have achieved mastery of foundational concepts in Mathematics, English Language, English Comprehension and Composition, and General Paper (Science, Social Studies, and Current Affairs) at the lower Secondary level.

- Form two (II) students obtaining less that 50% in the SEA.
- Candidates from specialised learning and development centres.
- Private Candidates.

What is the LSPE?
The Lower Secondary Proficiency Examination, which replaced the Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination, focuses on improving key skills in Mathematics, English Language, English Comprehension and Composition, and General Paper (Science, Social Studies, and Current Affairs).
Who is Eligible for the LSPE?
- Form Two (11) students who scored less than 50% in the SEA.
- Students from specialized learning and development centres.
- Private Candidates.
What subjects are tested in the LSPE?
The LSPE assesses students in four subjects:
- Mathematics

- English Language
- General Paper (Science, Social Studies and Current Affairs)

Grades are awarded as follows:
- Distinction: 100% – 75%
- Pass: 54% – 40%
- Credit. 74% -55%
- Fail: 39% -0%
What happens if I pass some but not all subjects?
If you pass at least two subjects in the first sitting, you have up to two years to retake the failed subjects to earn a certificate.
Can I retake the entire exam?
Yes, if you didn’t pass at least two subjects or want to improve your grades, you can retake the full exam.
