KMTC Celebrates Decades of Tranforming Anaesthesia Care In Kenya – Ten years ago, a shared vision united the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and the Center for Public Health Development (CPHD) to improve access to safe and effective anaesthesia care in Kenya. Today, this transformative partnership continues to flourish, building a skilled anaesthesia workforce and transforming lives across the country.
In a meeting held at KMTC Headquarters, Nairobi, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, officials from CPHD and KMTC reflected on a decade of achievements and mapped out future goals.
Through this partnership, KMTC now trains nurses and clinical officers in anaesthesia across its campuses, fostering critical life-saving skills for operating rooms and critical care units.
Key discussions focused on the impact of existing programs, faculty development, and integrating medical simulation technology into training. This innovative approach enables students to gain practical experience in a realistic, controlled environment, enhancing their ability to handle complex cases confidently.
Repreaenting KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch, Deputy Director Academics Dr. Nyawira Mwangi, noted that the collaboration has revolutionized anaesthesia training, equipping students with the desired skills needed to save lives and deliver safe care for all Kenyans. “By working together, we’re not only raising training standards but also addressing a vital need for skilled professionals who can deliver safe anaesthesia to every patient in need.”
In his remarks, CPHD Director of Programmes Dr. Clive Ogallo noted that the existing partnership with KMTC is focused on raising training standards and addressing the critical need for skilled anaesthesia providers.
The meeting was also attended by KMTC e-Learning Coordinator Dr. Gicheru Wagaki, CPHD Partnerships Manager Ms. Gatwiri Muriithi, among other members.
This partnership underscores KMTC’s strategic mission to produce fit-for purpose middle-level health professionals through transformative training.
