How to Solve Name Mismatch HESLGB 2025/26 Loan Application – As the 2025/26 loan application window continues, the Malawi Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) has urged applicants to ensure that the names on their student records match those on their National ID.

HESLGB Executive Director Prince Phwetekere raised the concern as the loan application process entered its 23rd day since opening on April 1, 2025.

He emphasized that the National ID is a mandatory document for all applicants, as it plays a critical role in verifying identity and tracking loan beneficiaries for future repayment.

“We’ve observed that many students use different names on their National IDs and student registration cards.

This inconsistency poses a major challenge, as the Board cannot offer loans to individuals whose identities cannot be clearly verified,” said Phwetekere.

He explained that mismatched names suggest the possibility of two different individuals, making it difficult for the Board to process loans.

“Every year, name mismatches lead to the exclusion of many deserving applicants from financial support,” he said.

Phwetekere urged all students to ensure their names match across all identification documents. He also advised those with discrepancies to resolve them with the National Registration Bureau (NRB).
“Applicants do not necessarily need the physical NRB card. We accept the NRB application form with a system-generated sticker as valid identification,” he clarified.

The loan application window closes on May 30, 2025.
