All teachers teaching in the system schools including FODE. Inclusive Education Resource Centres (IERC) and Vocational Education and Training Centres are to register and receive the PNG Teacher Smart Identity Card as the benchmark for all education employees in PNG. The Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra PhD OBE said the aim of the project is to register and issue every teacher in the national education system with NID and National Teacher Smart Identity Card.
Teachers can input their data directly online through the teacher ID-NID application on the education website:
Teachers in Port Moresby and Sogeri National School of Excellence and all secondary schools in NCD were issued Teacher Smart Cards last year. Teacher data collection has begun in April this year for the rest of the country. A national team will visit the provinces to verify. confirm and distribute the cards.
The Department of Education has called on school inspectors and school principals in the provinces to confirm teachers’ identity and provide necessary data for the ID cards.
Furthermore, the Department has advised that teacher data and information that is being captured are intended for the purpose of the ID card.
