HESLGB Malawi Begins 2025/2026 Provisional Loan Appeal on List Decisions

In todays latest HESLGB News: HESLGB Malawi Begins 2025/2026 Provisional Loan Appeal on List Decisions. Students who applied for loans in the 2025/26 loan cycle will be able to appeal HESLGB’s decision if they are not included on the upcoming provisional loan list, which has now been released todays the 15th of August 2025.

The HESLGB Act allows students to submit complaints for appeals, enabling loan applicants to ask HESLGB to reconsider its decision regarding their eligibility.

Loans and Grants Disbursement Manager Mphatso Sandram stated that after releasing a list of students who have been provisionally granted loans, HESLGB allows students who are not satisfied with the HESLGB decision, for example, if they are missing from the list, to appeal if they believe there was an error in the assessment and they should have been included on the provisional list.

He said this step is essential because it allows students, parents, and institutions to review the names and raise any concerns before loans are disbursed.

“We believe that allowing stakeholders to view and comment on the list builds trust and gives students a meaningful voice in the process,” he added.

Sandram: We believe that allowing stakeholders to view and comment on the list builds trust.

Sandram also highlighted that the public has a role in scrutinising the list and identifying any ineligible beneficiaries.

“We have previously received criticism from the public, accusing us of including students who are not eligible or genuinely needy,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for communities, institutions, and concerned individuals to raise such issues and help us identify students who may not meet the criteria.”

He said the following groups of students are eligible to appeal;

  • First-year needy students who did not apply due to a lack of knowledge of the existence of the students’ loans and grants scheme and procedures;
  • Students who were selected to college/university after the loan application window had closed;
  • Continuing students whose previous sponsorship from other sources has been ceased or terminated for various reasons; and
  • Students who applied for a loan and have not been considered but still feel there may be a mistake.

All appeal processes will be conducted online via sfmis.heslgb.mw
