HELSB Presents Comprehensive Review of Higher Education Authority Operations At Parliament – In todays latest HELSB News, a key committee meeting was held at Parliament, where the Zambia Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) presented a comprehensive review of the operations of the Higher Education Authority (HEA). Making the presentation on behalf of Chief Executive Officer Dr John Machayi was Deputy Director of Human Resources, Mr. Clyde H. Siamachoka, who represented CEO Dr. John Machayi.
The presentation highlighted critical developments, including the legal and policy framework governing HEA, its challenges in regulatory enforcement, and its capacity to oversee higher education institutions effectively. Mr. Siamachoka also outlined how the 2025 national budget, along with the introduction of a student fee levy, would provide the necessary resources to strengthen HEA’s regulatory functions. Key recommendations were shared to improve HEA’s operational efficiency, including decentralization, better use of technology, and enhanced enforcement powers.
The aim is to align Zambia’s higher education system with global best practices and contribute to the nation’s long-term development goals.
