HELSB Concludes Northern Province Sensitization Program

In todays latest HELSB News – HELSB Concludes Northern Province Sensitization Program.. The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB), led by Corporate Affairs Manager Ms. Chiselwa Kawanda, has wrapped up its sensitization program in Luwingu District on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025—marking the final leg of a comprehensive outreach initiative across the Northern Province.

From April 4th to April 8th, 2025, the HELSB team sensitized pupils in three districts: Kasama, Mporokoso, and Luwingu, engaging a total of over 3,900 pupils across various secondary schools. In Kasama District, sessions were conducted at Kasama Boys Secondary School, Mubanga Chipoya Secondary School, Ituna Secondary School, Peas Secondary School, and Henry Kapaa Secondary School, reaching 2,247 pupils.

In Mporokoso District, the team engaged 641 pupils at Mporokoso Boarding School and St Odilia Special Secondary School (School for the Visually Impaired). In Luwingu District, 1,012 pupils were sensitized at St Don Bosco Secondary School, Luwingu Boarding School, Luwingu Day Secondary School, and Saili Secondary School.

The team concluded the program with visits to Saili Secondary School and Luwingu Day Secondary School, engaging approximately 567 pupils and providing vital insights into HELSB’s student loans, scholarships, and repayment procedures. These school engagements, combined with radio outreach and collaboration with District Education Board Secretaries (DEBS), ensured broad and inclusive awareness of higher education funding opportunities—especially in underserved and rural communities.

The sensitization sessions were carried out by a dedicated team comprising Ms. Chiselwa Kawanda (Corporate Affairs Manager), Ms. Carol Kabondo (Senior Loans Disbursement Officer), and Mr. Stephen Chileshe (Customer Care Associate), who together ensured an impactful and informative experience for all participants.
Special encouragement was extended to girls enrolled in the Keeping Girls in School (KGS) program to utilize the available facilities. With strong community engagement and support from educators, HELSB is confident that the program will inspire more students to pursue tertiary education and make informed decisions about their academic futures.
