Examination Council of Zambia Clarifies Payment of Script Fees for 2024 Grade 9 Markers – The Examination Council of Zambia wish to refute claims by the Daily Nation Newspaper edition of 10th January, 2025, that Government, through the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ), has failed to pay markers contracted to mark the 2024 Grade 9 examination scripts.
In the article, National Action for Quality Education (NAQEZ), Executive Director Dr Aaron Chansa expressed concern about the alleged low marking rates and the reduced marking period.
The Grade 9 Markers are scheduled to be paid their script marking fees by 31st January, 2025 while the Grade 12 Markers will be paid by 28th February, 2025 as processing and validation of their claims would have been completed.
Further, the marking period per paper is determined by the number scripts as against the number of markers present. Therefore, the Council has not reduced the marking period.
Contrary to Dr Chansa’s claims, there is no marker set to be paid K1.0 per script, as script marking fees were increased in 2024, from K2.20 per script to K7.0 for smaller scripts and from K3.85 to K8.0 per script for bulky papers.
Additionally, the Examinations Council of Zambia does not fund elections or political activities as all funds at the institution are directed towards examination related activities.
