Reports Of Increased Cases Of Diarrhoeal Diseases In Nembe: Bayelsa Health, Environment Commissioners Pays Visit To Communities In Nembe LGA For On-The-Spot Assessment
The Bayelsa Health Commissioner, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, the Environment Commissioner, Hon. Ebi Ben Ololo , Representatives for Commissioner of Water Resources, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Azebi, Parmanent Secretary Ministry of Environment, Dr. Clinton Korubo Uncle,Technical Assistant to the Governor on Infectious Diseases, Dr. Nathaniel Apoku, WHO State Coordinator, Dr. Marcus, Members of the Red Cross, Healthcare Professionals and various Directors of our dear Ministry yesterday.
Upon reaching the health centers in Ogbolomabiri, Prof. Brisibe immediately took action, conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and evaluating the level of panic regarding gastrointestinal ailments.
They provided care to patients suffering from gastrointestinal illnesses and promptly referred all patients with such illnesses from the health centers to the General Hospital in Ogbolomabiri, where they received treatment for free.

The commissioners also visited the Opu-Nembe Primary Health Centre and Cottage Hospital to ensure that all patients with gastrointestinal issues there received free treatment as well, including the provision of necessary medical supplies.
“Solutions to health problems are sometimes multidisciplinary, and the visit was a clear example of partnership in working together as the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Water Resources collaborated with the State government’s role to safeguard the lives and properties of the people of Nembe,” Prof. Brisibe stated.
They educated the public (youths and chiefs) to work, institute frameworks, and were able to see patients in the various health facilities.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Brisibe, confirmed that no deaths have been caused by cholera or other diseases, and besides that, even the patients in the facilities are in good spirits.
According to Prof. Brisibe, he stated that they’ve also been able to establish a linkage between primary health care and secondary care aimed at strengthening our health system, so even after this situation in Nembe, the health system will be better for it and will pave the way for a resilient health system.

“As a government that stands tall for the people, and with the directives of the Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, all treatments and transportation of patients have been made free of charge. Frontline health care workers and everyone involved were thanked by our team for, of course, a job well done,” he added.
“With this urgent and serious intervention, we are not going to have any mortality and the epidemics issue will also go down as soon as possible”.
