COMPANIES REAPING FRUITS OF TEVET LEVY COMPLIANCE

COMPANIES REAPING FRUITS OF TEVET LEVY COMPLIANCE
Companies and organisations that pay TEVET levy are reaping the fruits of their compliance through common productivity improvement interventions offered by TEVETA through the Productivity Enhancement Programme (PEP).

PEP is a package of interventions aimed at improving productivity and performance in TEVET Levy compliant organisations and companies as well as enterprises owned by TEVET graduates.

The implementation of PEP stems from section 5k of the TEVET Act which mandates TEVETA to promote and provide programmes and in-service training.

According to the TEVETA Executive Director, Elwin Chiwembu Sichiola, TEVETA is facilitating the 2024/2025 Common Productivity Improvement Interventions in the northern, central and southern regions from 24 February to 14 March 2025.

”When companies pay TEVET levy, there are benefits attached to those payments such as these types of trainings and many others. As an Authority, we are committed to ensure that we facilitate the provision of these trainings in order to improve the performance of companies and productivity of the national economy,” he said.

Through Common Productivity Improvement Interventions, nine courses will be offered for five days each, with training in productivity principles embedded in all courses as follows: (a)North: Leadership and Management; Plant Machine Maintenance; and Advanced Marketing and Sales Management (b) Central: Customer Care, Ethics and Attitudes; Finance for non finance managers; and Principles of Pneumatics and Hydraulics (c) South: Records and Data Management; Customer Care, Ethics and Attitudes; and Advanced Computer Applications and ICT Fundamentals. TEVETA conducted needs assessment to identify the training needs of the stakeholders.

Currently, in the central region, Sakata Consult is facilitating the training of 38 participants from 23 companies in Customer Care, Ethics and Attitudes at Sunbird Lilongwe. In the northern region, Giant Plus Consult is facilitating the training of 34 participants from 22 companies in Records and Data Management at Chisanga Complex Centre. In the southern region, Salima Engineering and training Institute is facilitating the training of 35 participants from 15 companies in Plant Machine Maintenance and 41 participants from 20 companies in Leadership and Management by Sakata consult at Malawi Sun Hotel.
Companies benefitting from the Common Productivity Improvement Interventions are as follows:

Central region : Air cargo Ltd, Macsteel Ltd, Egenco, Likuni Mission Hospital, Road Fund Administration, Blue Waves Ltd, Centurion Lodges, Fleet Tech Services Ltd, Dedza Pottery Ltd, TEVETA, TAMA Trust, Bishop Mackenzie International Schools, Afro Egypt Engineering Ltd, Kawandama Hills Plantations and Auction Holdings Ltd.

The southern region has Ethanol Company Limited, Airport Development Limited, Blantyre Adventist Hospital, Chibuku Products Limited, Soche Technical College, Kabula Industrial Safety Services Limited, EGENCO, DAPP Mikilongwe Vocational School, The Samaritan Trust, Rab Processor Limited, Macsteel Malawi Limited, The Barker, Capital Oil Refinery, Department of Civil Aviation Chileka Airport, Paintek Signs and Graphics.

The northern region has Kwithu Kitchen, Wezi clinic, Mumbwe clinic, Miracle Technical institute, Immigration, Rumphi District Council, Mzuzu Technical College, Jenda Water Users Association, Kawandama Hills Plantations, Malawi Prison Service, Malawi Housing Corporation, Intersaf Ltd, Mzimba South District Farmers Union, National Bank, Egenco, TAMA, Aucha Lodge, Chisanga General Dealers, Speed Fitment Ltd, Afro Egypt Engineering, Ethanol, Emerge Livelihoods and Mzuzu Trade Testing Centre.

Common Productivity Improvement Interventions used to be called Public Private Sector Training Programme (PPSTP) and was discontinued in 2019 when the programme was reengineered and became Productivity Enhancement Programme (PEP).
