Bayelsans Observe Sanitation Excercise -STF Nabs Defaulters – The Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Exercise for the month of August was successfully carried out by residents in Yenagoa metropolis and its environs with mixed.reactions.

The Commissioner for Environment, Hon Ben Ololo stated that it would no longer be business as usual for defaulters of the state Sanitation law, calling residents to always clean their surroundings.

Hon. Ben Ololo emphasized that one of the cardinal thrusts of the prosperity government is to ensure that Yenagoa becomes one of the cleanest and safest city in the country.
The environment commissioner who spoke to to newsmen shortly after the apprehension of some commercial cab drivers, traders and some youths who were loitering during the Sanitation period noted that the arrest would serve as a deterrent to others.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Ebikebina Ugo stated that although, the exercise witness a few cases of non compliance with the Sanitation laws by some residents, however pointed out that they were propally handled according to the operational laws of the state.

The permanent secretary expressed gratitude to the commissioner for show of commitment to governor Douye Diri’s policy directives by being present throughout the period of the exercise.

Some residents appeared to the state government to clear the canals to allow the free flow of water to during the flooding period while many commended the government for its efforts in ensuring a secured environment. Some of the arrest took place in swali market, tombia roundabout and NDDC office area, along the Mbiama/Yenagoa road.

The permanent secretary, ministry of Environment, Mr. Uncle Clinton and directors in both the ministry and the Sanitation Authority were present during the exercise.
