AUB Mastercard Foundation PhD Scholarships 2025–26 for African Students and Refugees

Applications are now open for the Spring 2025–26 on-campus PhD scholarships at the American University of Beirut (AUB) under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. The program aims to support exceptional students from Africa and Lebanon who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to community development. The deadline for applications is November 6, 2025.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at AUB helps talented individuals who lack financial resources pursue advanced studies and become leaders in their fields. Selected candidates receive full funding for tuition, accommodation, and living expenses. Scholars also participate in mentorship, leadership development, and community engagement activities.

  • Refugees living in Lebanon or on the African Continent

Eligibility And Selection Criteria for Scholarship Students

  • Good academic standing in the previous degree
  • Talent that exceeds financial resources​
  • Commitment to giving back to the community, country, and region
  • Leadership skills
  • Commitment to attend all the additional learning experiences and workshops required by the
  • Scholars Program
  • 35 years or younger
  • Demonstration of Readiness for University Studies in English (RUSE).

​Tests that you can submit: AUB-EN test, TOEFL IBT, IELTS (Academic), GRE (Verbal), GMAT (Verbal), or DUOLINGO English Test (DET).​

How to Apply

Interested applicants applying or the AUB Mastercard Foundation PhD Scholarships 2025–26 for African Students and Refugees should:

​Step ​1: Complete an AUB online graduate application and upload supporting documents by the deadline.

Step ​2: Select Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program under the Financial Opportunities section of the online graduate application.

Step 3 (not required for PhD applicants): Complete the AUB Financial Aid Application, which will be accessible, within 1-3 working days, after you ​submit your Graduate Admission Application. You will receive, within 1-3 days, an automated email from the financ​ial aid office informing you of your access rights once the financial aid application has been activated.​

​IMPORTANT NOTE: For an application to be considered complete, applicants must have completed (1) the AUB online graduate application and (2) the AUB Financial Aid Application.
