About the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB)
Established in 1957 under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Cap 244, the PPB is Kenya’s National Medicines Regulatory Authority. The Board oversees the regulation of the practice of pharmacy, the manufacture and trade in medical products, and the control of health technologies in Kenya. Its mission is to protect public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of medical products and promoting ethical pharmaceutical practices.
Project Background
The Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Project for Eastern and Southern Africa (Phase I) operates under a Multiphase Programmatic Approach. Through this project, PPB seeks to enhance regulatory performance, strengthen institutional systems, and align with WHO GBT Maturity Level 3 standards. Achieving this level reflects a regulatory system that is stable, transparent, and capable of managing health emergencies effectively.
