Rand Water Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership x10 for Unemployed Youth

Rand Water is inviting young, unemployed South Africans to apply for the Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership Programme 2025. This 18-month structured learning and workplace experience aims to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills for a career in procurement and supply chain management. The programme is based at Rietvlei, Glenvista, Gauteng, and forms part of Rand Water’s commitment to developing future professionals in the water and utility sector.

Ten positions are available, including five for people with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunity. Successful learners will gain practical exposure to procurement processes, supplier negotiations, and contract management, preparing them to operate as qualified Procurement Officers upon completion.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria

  • Applicants must not be employed.
  • Applicants must not be enrolled with any institution for a qualification nor be registered in any Learnership Programme.
  • Applicants must not be in possession of a completed post-matric qualification
    (NB: Failure to disclose post-matric qualifications will result in applicant being disqualified)
  • Applicants in possession of a post-matric qualification must not apply and will not be considered.
  • Applicants must have a Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics Literacy and English (minimum of Level 4 in ALL the subjects)
  • Applicants must submit / attach SAQA / NLRD verification report (Obtainable from SAQA website)
  • Applicants must be a South African citizen and be in possession of a valid SA ID.
  • Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age (in line with the NSDSIII).
  • For People with Disabilities (PWDS)
  • Applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing should be able to provide their own interpreters at their own costs, since this is a learnership and they should be able to Hear and Communicate
  • Proof of disability (Doctor’s Certificate/report or signed ITRDD13 by a registered medical doctor) MUST accompany the application

Primary Duties

  • Develop and maintain implementation of operational schedules for procurement and supply.
  • Manage procurement and supply relationships and contracts.
  • Monitor and measure procurement and supply performance.

Responsibilities during Learnership Programme:

  • Attend classes as part of the learnership programme.
  • Participate in discussions and activities during class.
  • Complete assignments and projects as required.
  • Write assessments and complete practical logbook to evaluate knowledge and understanding.
