University of Malawi Announces First Semester 2025/2026 Academic Year Opening for New and Continuing Students.
The University of Malawi wishes to inform its new and continuing students, parents/guardians, and the general public that the opening arrangements for the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year are as follows:
OPENING DATES
The official opening date for the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year is Monday, 1st September 2025. However, specific categories of students should note the following dates:
Monday, 25[th] – 29[th] August, 2025: Orientation Week for:
Year 1 generic students;
Newly Selected ODeL students;
Newly Selected Mature Entry Students;
Newly Selected Economic Fee-Paying students;
Year 1 Law (LLB Honours) Students;
Year 1 Diploma in Law Students; and
Year 1 Diploma in Statistics Students.
COMMENCEMENT OF CLASSES
Classes for both new and continuing students shall commence on Monday, 1[st] September 2025.
ADMISSION LETTERS FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS
First-year students are required to collect their admission letters from the University (in the Mwanbo Lecture Theatre Lobby) or request the same by emailing [email protected]. A national Identity Card will be used to confirm the identity of the students. For those who do not have the National Identity card, the Malawi National Examination Board Identity card may be used.
TUITION FEES & REGISTRATION
Students are advised to immediately commence payments of tuition fees contribution through MPAMBA or NBS Bank using their specific individual 12-digit bank account numbers provided in the admission letters. Students are further advised that the University does not accept cash payments.
Tuition fee for generic students selected through the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) is MK650,000.00 per annum. Mature Entry, Economic-Fee Paying, and Diploma students should refer to their admission letters for the relevant fee structure. Tuition fee contribution is paid in full before registration or in two equal instalments at the beginning of each semester. In addition, all students are supposed to pay an additional Student Union subscription through the same bank account (the amount will be communicated by the Students’ leadership in due course).
Online registration will open from Monday, 25th August 2025. Students who fail to register within the first two weeks of the official opening date shall have their admission revoked or withdrawn from the University.
ACCOMMODATION
All students are reminded that admission is on a non-residential basis. Therefore, students are encouraged to secure accommodation before the opening date. Limited campus accommodation will be allocated randomly, and students will be notified through SMS from “UNIMA” regarding the outcome.
