DBE First Payrun for Phase V of the Basic Education Employment Inititative (BEEI). The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is pleased to provide an update on the successful first pay run for youth placed under Phase V of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).
Payments have begun processing across all participating provinces for Education Assistants and General School Assistants who commenced duty in June 2025. The Department has worked closely with Provincial Education Departments to finalise verification processes, contract submissions, and data capturing to ensure timely disbursement. The first cohort of beneficiaries will receive their stipends on 4 and 5 July 2025, depending on funds clearing by banks.
Delays may occur in isolated cases where outstanding documentation is still being processed, and affected individuals are urged to follow up with their respective district officials.

We extend our gratitude to all school principals and administrators for their support in onboarding youth. The BEEI continues to provide critical support in classrooms, reducing admin tasks for teachers, improving teacher wellbeing, increasing time for teaching, while empowering young South Africans with meaningful work experience, relevant skills development and increasing chances of employability of young people.
For any queries, participants are encouraged to contact provincial BEEI coordinators or the national call centre.
