What Is the Deadline for Botswana DTEF 2025/2026 Tertiary Education Financing?
1. Budget Allocation
Total budget: P3,080,647,010 (Three billion and eighty million, six hundred and forty-seven thousand and ten Pula)
2. Student Loan Management System
Students should apply at : https://tef.gov.bw from 2 July 2025. Application deadline: 31 July 2025.
3. Only new students will be sponsored under the 2025/26 cycle.Sponsorship is self-placement at accredited and approved Education & Training Providers (ETPs). Visit Botswana Qualifications Authority for a list of accredited institutions and courses.
4. A total of 12,034 new students (including BGCSE and IGCSE upgrades) will receive sponsorship — an increase from 10,180 last year.
5. Progression
A limited quota of 50 progression students will be considered.
6. Re-sponsorships
Re-sponsorships will not be offered, although 4,641 eligible cases remain pending.
7. Pick-ups
Pick-ups limited to local students with improved points.
No international pick-ups will be considered.
8. Cut-off point remains at 36 for mainstream.
Orphans, remote area students, special needs: cut-off lowered to 31 points.
9. Applicants must take responsibility to make and submit applications and avoid third parties.
10. Tertiary allowance adjustment to P2,500 postponed due to financial constraints.
However, from August 2025, Brigade student allowances will rise from P300 to match existing tertiary rates.

All applicants are therefore advised to adhere to terms and conditions for applying for sponsorship as stated in this notice to ensure compliance to set requirements. Applicants are expected to have an email account/address in order to apply for sponsorship. The applicants will be allowed a maximum of three (3) choices of programmes.
Prospective students will submit their tertiary education financing application for the 2025/2026 sponsorship cycle on-line. The system will validate your citizenship, age, secondary school results, admission at University/College, accreditation status of the programme applied for before awarding a sponsorship.
