In todays latest HESLGB News – Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) Malawi to Release 2025/26 provisional Loan Beneficiaries List by September After Receiving 34000 Applications.
HESLGB closed the loan application window for the 2025/26 loan cycle on 30th May 2025, having received slightly over 34,000 applications from students seeking financial assistance.
HESLGB Executive Director, Prince Phwetekere, described the response as encouraging.
“We are delighted by the substantial number of applications received this year. It is a clear indication of the growing demand for financial support in higher education,” he said.
HESLGB will now begin evaluating the eligibility of all received applications. Phwetekere emphasised that only applicants who meet the established criteria will be considered for loan disbursement.

“The selection process involves a rigorous verification of submitted information and supporting documents. Once this is completed, the list of successful applicants will be published, tentatively around September,” he explained.
He reaffirmed HESLGB’s commitment to ensuring that the loan scheme benefits students who demonstrate genuine financial need, by its operating policies.
Students submitted their applications online via the Student Financing Management Information System (SFMIS), which required them to upload key documents including a valid National ID, guardian’s ID, signed consent form, proof of payment of the non-refundable application fee, and an admission letter verified by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
