The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has confirmed the release of names for candidates selected into the 21st cohort of the Initial Primary Teacher Education Programme, commonly known as IPTE.
The programme prepares future primary school teachers through formal training conducted in ten public Teacher Training Colleges across Malawi. According to the ministry, all selected candidates will study as boarding students during the training period.

Reporting Dates for Selected Candidates
All successful applicants are required to report to their assigned colleges on Sunday, 10 May 2026. Lectures and official learning activities will begin on Monday, 11 May 2026.
The ministry also warned that candidates who fail to report by Monday, 25 May 2026, risk losing their places. Vacant spaces may later be allocated to other eligible applicants.
Candidates are encouraged to confirm their college placement early and prepare the required reporting materials before the deadline.
Important Information About Employment
The Ministry clarified that completion of the IPTE programme does not guarantee automatic employment by the government.
Graduates who complete the training successfully will still follow existing recruitment procedures when teaching opportunities become available in the public sector.
