EMERGENCY RELIEF AND STRATEGIC INTERVENTIONS FOR CHILDREN AFFECTED BY FLOODS IN BOTSWANA
The Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education recently received a generous donation from UNICEF and the Red Cross organization to help ease the impact of the recent floods that devastated the nation, affecting 2,631 children.
The donation, amounting to P700,000.00, is intended to provide emergency relief, including essential supplies such as food, blankets, mattresses, hygiene kits (soap and menstrual hygiene products) and the provision of drinking water.
The funds will also support community engagement activities, such as awareness campaigns on flood preparedness and safety, child safeguarding measures and hygiene promotion to prevent waterborne diseases.

These resources will primarily benefit the areas most affected by the floods in Kgatleng, including Mochudi, Gantsi, Tlokwengand Gaborone.
When receiving the donation, the minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education Hon Nono- Kgafela Mokoka said government continues to improve appropriate strategies that promote holistic interventions among vulnerable households, children and communities by leveraging on strategic alliance to ensure recovery from the effects of the disaster.
The minister further highlighted that the prioritization of resources, targeted programs and interventions for families and children paramount in safeguarding the welfare of children in Botswana.
